Salary: Grade J, Step 1, $18.23 – Step 12, $26.64 per hour, temporary, Full-Time, 40 hours per week
Benefits: Full-Time: Social Security, Medical and Dental Insurance, 4 hours annual leave and 4 hours sick leave per pay period, holiday pay, up to 3% 403(b) match based upon employee contribution of 3%.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Geography, Climate Resiliency or related field from a U.S. regionally accredited institution or foreign equivalent;
One year of work experience in natural resource management, conservation, climate resiliency, policy and sustainability;
Must possess a valid driver’s license;
Character of Duties:
The University of Guam Center for Island Sustainability & Sea Grant (UOG CIS & SG) is seeking a dedicated Extension Associate I (Climate Action Coordinator) to be posted at the Office of the Governor of Guam. This staff will support the implementation of the Guam Comprehensive Climate Action Plan (CCAP) and related environmental initiatives.
Collaborate closely with the Governor’s Chief Advisor for Military and Regional Affairs to implement and monitor climate initiatives and develop environmental safeguards related to large development projects with high environmental impact – included but not limited to the military buildup;
Lead cross-agency coordination to align climate efforts across government agencies and stakeholders, ensuring unified climate action and reporting;
Support the development of regulations and policies that advance the CCAP goals, including assessing project feasibility and impact on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions;
Research and draft at least one to two GHG reduction policy proposals in alignment with GHG reduction measures listed in the CCAP and the UOG Center for Island Sustainability & Sea Grant (UOG CIS & SG) and Guam Green Growth (G3) Action Framework;
Engage with local and regional stakeholders, including senators and subject matter experts, to support policy development and implementation;
Provide strategic policy support, including drafting memos on national and international climate policy positions relevant to Guam;
Develop sustainable climate finance strategies and environmental safeguards—such as carbon credits, conservation funding, and impact compensation—to mitigate the effects of large-scale development projects;
Other duties as assigned by the Governor’s Chief of Advisor for Military and Regional Affairs and the CIS Director;
